The 2026 Legislative Visit Day and its related events drew an excellent turnout. On Tuesday, Sierra Chapter member firm Blackburn Consulting sponsored our first Emerging Professionals (EP) mixer, and Tom Blackburn earned Pinball Wizard honors at a well-attended PAC Barcade event.
Wednesday was the main event, where we had 98 of the best and brightest volunteers, including 21 first-time participants or EPs. Sierra Chapter shined as we represented 13 of the 21. This crack team made 59 office meetings, connecting directly with the legislator in 11 instances. We celebrated this success with a reception afterward at the California Museum where legislators and staff joined us for cocktails and tall tales.
Don't Miss the Final Hurrah
One of my favorite events, the Summer Social and Meeting of the Members is right around the corner on Thursday, June 18, at the Prelude Kitchen and Bar.
If you have previously attended the Summer Social, then you know this is a great social event where we regale in the successes of the year and I get to pass the gavel to our next President, Ian Broddrick.
The event also serves as a fundraiser for our scholarship program, continuing our mission to support the next generation of industry leaders.
Registration closes June 10, 2026.

What a Ride!
As I enter the glide path to past presidency, I do so with fond memories and immense gratitude. It has been my great honor to lead this wonderful chapter and incredible board of directors.
Together, we have accomplished a lot in the last 12 months, and it is a credit to the support of our members as well as the effort and creative spirit of our board. It also doesn’t happen without the building blocks laid by prior executive committees and presidents. Much of what we accomplished relied on the innovations, advances, and guidance of the many past presidents. Most notably for me, Eric Fanselau and Donald Blackburn. Their accomplishments and support were critical to our success this year.
I am tremendously proud of the success of our new signature event, the Past Presidents Gala. It’s never easy to make changes to traditional events and our board provided thoughtful input and guidance to the planning of this inaugural event, which was critical to its success. To say that I appreciate their support and trust to proceed with this event is the understatement of the year. Of course, this couldn’t have happened without the detailed planning and support of our Events Committee Chairperson, Kayla Miller.
Last, because we save the best for last, I am eternally thankful for the support, and occasional prodding, from our chapter administrator, Stephanie Crary. Everything we did this year relied on her support and input in some way, and I am eternally grateful for her patience and positive attitude.
I am excited for the future of the Sierra Chapter as we have an excellent incoming Executive Committee in Ian, Elizabeth (Libby) Schlagel, and Tatevik Janvelyan!
