Wow! It’s almost February and the Sierra Chapter is more than halfway through its fiscal year. Looking ahead, several of our chapter board members and state directors will head to Orange County for the annual ACEC-CA conference and Engineering Excellence Awards Gala. The EEA Gala raises money for and recognizes scholarship recipients. ACEC-CA gives away over $70,000 per year of scholarships! And many of your firms will receive project awards and recognition at the event. Congratulations, and I hope to see you there!
On February 19th, we will host Jerry Brown, Executive Director of the Sites Reservoir Authority. The historic Sites Reservoir project is heating up. Join us to hear the latest from Jerry. At this meeting, we will recognize the Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship recipients and honor our Sierra Chapter Past Presidents. Past Presidents eat for free. We can’t wait to catch up! Register now.
We are happy to announce that the Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship, now in its 14th year, has awarded two $5,000 scholarships! This year’s winners are Aaron Pickett from Sacramento State and Morgan Bates from University of the Pacific. Congratulations to both!
The Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011 after the untimely passing of Tim Fleming in 2010. Tim was a Sierra Chapter Past President and served many years on the board. He was a graduate of the University of the Pacific and Stanford University and served our industry tirelessly as a leader and colleague. This scholarship honors his legacy and reminds us that life is precious.
Aaron and Morgan will receive their scholarship checks at the ACEC Sierra Chapter Past President’s Dinner to be held on February 19, 2025.
The Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship is administered by the California Transportation Foundation (CTF) and is open to Junior, Senior and Graduate Civil Engineering/Transportation majors at California State University Sacramento, University of California Davis, and the University of the Pacific.

I’ll remind you of the continued efforts of our ACEC-CA team. We are starting 2025 with two full-time legislative affairs staff. Tyler Munzing and Voleck Taing are working closely within the California congressional system to advocate for ACEC member firms across this great state. In 2024, both of ACEC-CA’s bills passed into law. They will be fighting just as hard for us in 2025. I encourage you to read the legislative briefs that Tyler and Voleck write each month and reach out to them to get involved with your local representatives.
